The Perez Art Museum in Miami was gifted a collection of drawings by Christo and Jeanne-Claude this past week. 

The public was invited to view the artworks on Free Second Saturdays (9/10/22), and l can attest that the museum was well attended.  The exhibition is entitled “Christo Drawings: A Gift from the Maria Bechily and Scott Holes Collection.”

Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude, were known for their impact on multiple landscapes in various countries. One of their large-scale environmental installations took place here in Miami (1983) and was known as Surrounded Islands.  The couple gathered hundreds of volunteers to help surround islands in Biscayne Bay with a bright pink Polyethylene fabric.   The installation lasted for 13 days, then was dismantled and buried.  Not totally because many people, including myself have small rectangles of the pink fabric.

The PAMM located at 1103 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, acquired drawings from the project and the works are on view until June 11, 2023.   Information: 305.375-3000. 

As for the photos that are attached to this article, the one where I’m pointing upwards was taken at the PAMM and the others (pink for Surrounded Islands and beige for the Pont Neuf), are in our Christo & Jeanne-Claude private collection.
