This fermented libation pairs so well with a multitude of foods but exceptionally well with the vast assortment of sushi that has become a staple in Asian restaurants everywhere.  America is now the third largest importer of the intricately fermented beverage and as a nation we are finally acknowledging the complexity of the formidable liquid.

Dish from Cheen-HuayeA friend introduced me to this casual, Southern Mexican Cuisine restaurant on Biscayne Blvd. and 154th St., a while back.  A Mexican-American top-notch, local chef eats there all the time and confided, “I know good food and I know good Mexican authentic food and this place serves delicious, traditional, South of the Border food, which is rare in Miami. It’s not your typical Taco sampler.  It’s real and tasty, the way they make it in Southern Mexico.”

HamburgersMeander on in, nestle yourself into a chair situated under the extended sidewalk awning and prepare to enjoy a laid-back eatery and some creative comfort food. Sweet Nectar has been open for the last couple of months in the heart of Fort Lauderdale’s restaurant/gallery row.  It’s an unpretentious place located on the very pretentious East Las Olas Blvd. and so far it seems to be catching on with the locals.  Our very astute waiter Tony said, “We want to offer down-home food that has a sensational creative twist on familiar menu items such as burgers, ribs and even marshmallows.”

Martha Stewart at SoBe Food & Wine FestivalAs expected this year’s SoBe Wine & Food Festival was a delectable success.  Most of the pricey events sold out quickly.  The jam-packed 3-day eating and drinking ‘contest’ welcomed some of the world’s best known chefs who prepared a wide assortment of meals for thousands of hungry guests at dozens of locations throughout Miami and Miami Beach.
