We were looking for a Spice Menu dinner in our NE Miami neighborhood.

We tried PINCH however they weren’t offering the Spice dinner this year.  So we drove around Biscayne Blvd., in search of Spice.

We arrived at La Social at about 7:20 p.m. and fortunately they were still serving. The kitchen closes at 8 and yes they did turn down 3 clients while we were having our meals. There was one other couple who were finishing their dinners, but otherwise the place was empty on a Thursday evening.

La Social is charming.  Parking is easy and free. The inside is comfortable and nice.  Our table hadn’t been cleaned however David Flores, part owner, sponged off the previous diner’s crumbs.

I ordered the salmon and rice.  RG ordered the La Social Sandwich special.  While we waited to be served, I admired the various clocks, the designer mirror, the reflective chandelier and the whole atmosphere in general.  It’s a good local eatery that I think will do well, but maybe not for my taste buds.

RG’s meal was tremendeous. He loved his La Social sandwich. My salmon was dry, tasteless and the accompanying side-rice dish was probably made in the morning and didn’t do well with age.  We drank tap water, weren’t offered any bread or butter, didn’t have any condiments to enhance our meal and I ended up asking for some mustard to spice up my dish.

Ivan Nieves and David Flores are starting a new life (ravished by hurricanes in Puerto Rico), in NE Miami.  The menu is properly priced (our total was about $40.). It has a neighborhood feel which is so needed in our area and luckily for them local tongues are wagging.

I’ll go back one more time and hope that what I plan to order is better than what I was served this past Thursday.  Our neighborhood has been raving about this place since they opened three months ago.  I can’t rave just yet, however everyone deserves a second chance.

Added note, I just read the Yelp reviews and my take is that maybe they should concentrate on breakfast, lunch and afternoon café and desserts, just saying…
