Miami Spice at Ruth’s.
We wanted to honor and acknowledge some talented artists whose works were being exhibited at the Coral Gables Museum on the first Friday of Gallery Night, (Check our Arts section in the Arts section of Le Dish). Afterwards we decided to go enjoy dinner a block away at Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
(Writer’s note), Many years ago when Robert and I were hosting our French-American Radio Show on W-DNA here in Miami, I received an invite to attend the opening of Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Palm Beach. Needless to say it was a ‘schlep’ however we knew that Ruth was slated to be present, so we schlepped. So worth the drive.
The opening, over two decades ago was, as expected first rate. Celebrities, local gentry and friends of Ruth Fertel were all enjoying delectables and drinks. After sipping and tasting, my squeeze and I decided to walk around and get some photos of the attendees. Surprisingly, tucked in a corner at the entrance of this new, exquisite restaurant was Ruth. She was seated, gently smiling, lovely, and relatively ignored. We introduced ourselves and stayed with her for a while. I can write pages about this amazing entrepreneur who hired women having a hard time finding employment, however you can look up her success story and how she started a dining dynasty yourselves.
We walked into Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Coral Gables without a reservation on a Friday. How dare we? We were taken to a table staffed by John who immediately asked if we wanted the Spice Menu. The three course Spice’s dinner is $39. Your choice of starters includes Louisiana Seafood Gumbo or Steak House Salad. Entrees include an 8 oz. Petite Filet, so tender that you won’t need a knife to cut it. There is also the Stuffed Chicken Breast with garlic herb cheese or Sizzling Blue Crab Cakes with awesome lemon butter. The sides include Creamed Spinach, Garlic Mashed Potatoes or a Sweet Potato Casserole (additional $4.00). Dessert is a fruity Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce. We splurged on a bottle of white wine. The meal was divine. I took my ‘doggie’ bag home and enjoyed a sublime lunch the following day.
Besides Il Mulino in South Beach, Ruth’s has an unbeatable Miami Spice menu. GO!!!
