I always let someone else pick the Spice restaurants.   I’m curious to see what people choose. So my friend Victor selected Monty’s.

Sailboats, Tiki huts and a soothing view of Biscayne Bay was a good choice. Off we went on a broiling hot day towards Coconut Grove.  Interestingly the place was not packed.  Here’s a tip.  Remember to specifically ask for the Spice menu.  Wait staff sometimes conveniently forget.  According to our waiter, the Spice menu will change from week to week. There is an 18% service charge added to you bill.

Some of the drawbacks, if you want to find fault, which we didn’t, it was the heat.  It’s outdoor eating and although overhead fans are working overtime, it’s still pretty hot. Now I don’t mind this at all however if you’re squeamish be prepared to have dining companions such as beautiful wandering bright green Iguanas , hungry crows and little birdies waiting for a nibble to fall from your plate.  I think it’s sweet and adds to the flavor of the eatery.

Monty’s offers plenty of seafood selections. Bar food, Salads and Sandwiches are yummy and seem well paired with the tropical environment.  .  There is even a kids menu.

For the Happy Hour thirsty crowd, you’ll find cocktails, house wines, beers accompanied with $1 oysters as well as some good tasting clams, stone crabs and shrimp. Happy Hour is from Monday through Friday, (4-8 p.m.).  Next time I find myself in the Grove, I’ll be heading to Monty’s for some finger licking treats.
