When I see a sign that says Pizza & Pasta, I wonder, does the eatery only offer pizza and pasta or could there be more?

The PROOF restaurant in midtown offers so much more and it is surprising creative and delicious.

The place is edgy, cool and contemporary. Our waiter was happy, informative and really personable.  I believe customers appreciate a wait staff that is enthusiastic about their food and beverages items. I know I do.

Their menu offers two SPICE lunch choices. We ordered one of each. For appetizers the Chilled Cobia included passion fruit, calabrian chili and puffed quinoa which was yummy.  My Squash Blossom Flatbread with shaved zucchini, a rich ricotta and pea tendrils was garden fresh and spread on a perfectly made flatbread.  As entrees we selected the Tagliatelle roasted lamb, with mint pesto and pecorino.  Also yummy. My BBQ Red Prawns were large, not over cooked or chewy and came accompanied with roasted corn and leeks which brought out the spiciness of the prawns. Delicious.

Although I don’t eat desserts, everything we had enjoyed so far needed to be topped by a refreshing finish to the meal. The Summer Peach Buckle pecans with a side of brown butter ice cream was dreamy.  My dining partner couldn’t resist trying the Affogato Espresso, with amaretti and vanilla bean ice cream.  This $23 p/p meal was amazing on every level. Our beverage of choice was the Byronic brown ale (draught $7). It’s a locally brewed beer (the Tank Brewing Co.), and it too was properly paired with our meals thanks to our waiter Eliezer’s advice.   PROOF has been open for almost two years and in my humble opinion is a delectable find. One to which we will no doubt return.  Oh, and of course they have PIZZA and PASTAS on their regular menu too.
