Wonderful wines from the Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Languedoc, Loire Valley, Rhone Valley, Gascony and Provence regions of France were featured recently at Smith & Wollensky Restaurant in South Beach.
A slide presentation promoting the sweet wines from Bordeaux were highlighted by Heath Porter of UVACGGIO Wine Bar (70 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables). Porter explained the advantage of marring, hand selected boutique wines with many of the tropical foods from the Florida area. All the wines available for tasting at the restaurant were produced in small family owned chateaux, so supplies are limited.
The Sweet Bordeaux is a trade body that represents and promotes the 10 appellations of Bordeaux’s late-harvest. The Domaine du Noble 2014 comes from the highest part of the Loupiac hillside. It’s fine and fruity and very aromatic. Additional wines including Chateau Lapinesse (Sauternes), 2014, Chateau La Grave (Sainte-Croix-du-Mont), 2014 Chateau d’Armajan des Ormes (Sauternes) 2011, Domaine du Vic (Cadillac), 2012, and last but certainly not least the Sweet Bordeaux by Chateau Fayau (Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux), 2014 are elegant, golden, aromatically rich and complex. The representatives were in South Florida seeking distribution points.
