60 years old and they don’t look a day over 21.
The Mai-Kai is one of those historic South Florida places that everyone has to experience at least once. Actually everyone should visit the place over and over again because there is always something special going on.
Recently author Tim Glazner revealed his latest book: “Mai-Kai: History & Mystery of the Iconic Tiki Restaurant”. The place was packed. No seriously, standing room only on a weekday afternoon. Afterwards there was a very long line to get his book signed along with a selfie.
Anniversary Celebration guests enjoyed adult beverages with names such as Last Rites, Impatient Virgin and Demerara Float. Needless to say a multitude of rums and additional concoctions were involved in preparing the drinks.
Voted # 1 Polynesian Restaurant in the world and official Mai-Kai Day in Broward County, visitors enjoyed the festivities as well as the gift shop items and the multiple exotic dining rooms. I’ve been there many times but never in the daylight. Here are some photos of the numerous hand-carved sculptures that happily live on the premises.
Besides Mai-Kai catering services enjoy Sushi Wednesdays at the Molokai Bar. There is a complimentary Buffet with a minimum purchase of $10.00. There’s also a full assortment of specials. More importantly the dinners and fantastic nightly shows are a must. Mai-Kai, Restaurant and Catering is located at 3599 N. Federal Hwy. in Ft. Lauderdale, 33308 or call for reservations at (954) 563.3272 or visit: www.maikai.com. So worth the drive there. Oh, and self-parking is only $3.00.
